Supporting local communities is essential for fostering growth, resilience, and connection. At Suburban Propane, giving back is prioritized through our SuburbanCares philanthropic pillar, with a commitment made to supporting those in need and strengthening community bonds across the company’s 42-state footprint. Investing in local initiatives enriches lives and builds a more sustainable and vibrant future for everyone.

This week, Suburban Propane partnered with Warren County Habitat for Humanity on a new construction project, with Assemblyman John DiMaio (NJ District 23) in attendance. Warren County Habitat for Humanity strives to eliminate inadequate housing in its local community and beyond. Suburban Propane’s Washington, New Jersey Customer Service Center employees volunteered to help build a home for its future residents. Their efforts reflect the Company’s dedication to positively impacting where it matters most—close to home.

“We are so grateful for Suburban Propane’s support, both from their generous donation and their assisting our build crew on site! We’re glad they could have the experience of helping to build our newest Partner Family’s home.” Stated Brittany Powelson, Volunteer Services and Public Relations Manager at Warren County Habitat for Humanity.

Local Suburban Propane employees wasted no time grabbing hard hats, gloves, and tools. They worked alongside Warren County Habitat for Humanity ReStore volunteers, the construction crew, and the future residents of this build site. The project united everyone with a shared commitment to creating a brighter future for the family and the community.

Suburban Propane is proud of its employees for their vital contributions to this meaningful project and for helping their local community through this collaborative effort. Their hard work and compassion reflect the Company’s SuburbanCares commitment to make a difference in the community. Each year, September 11th serves as a time of reflection, remembrance, and reverence for the lives lost and the heroes who rose above during one of the most tragic days in American history. To honor their memory and the selfless first responders who risked everything to save others, Suburban Propane, in collaboration with its national partner, the American Red Cross, united to host the 10th Annual September 11th Jersey City Police & Fire 9/11 Memorial Blood Drive in Jersey City, New Jersey.

This blood drive is not just a one-time event but a continuous tribute to those who gave their lives, and an opportunity to give life to those in need. Blood donation is a critical act of kindness that can save lives in many ways. From trauma victims and surgical patients to those battling life-threatening illnesses, the need for blood is constant. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, a person in the U.S. requires a blood transfusion, and by donating, you’re contributing directly to saving lives.

The importance of blood donation extends beyond emergencies. Hospitals nationwide rely on a steady blood supply to perform surgeries, treat cancer patients or individuals with Sickle Cell Disease, and help those with chronic illnesses. Blood shortages can lead to delays in care and put lives at risk. By coming together as a community to donate blood, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of 9/11’s heroes and embody their spirit of service and compassion. This memorial blood drive collected 116 pints, which can potentially save upward of 348 lives.

Suburban Propane is grateful for its dedicated employees who donated to our memorial blood drive or volunteered their time and energy to support donors during this event as part of the Company’s SuburbanCares philanthropic platform, focused on supporting and giving back to the communities across Suburban Propane’s national footprint.  A blood donation can be the gift that saves a life, offering hope and healing in the face of tragedy. Together, people can continue the legacy of courage and selflessness that defines this solemn day.

How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org , or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, or before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.

All individuals who donated blood at the event were given a commemorative t-shirt and a Red Cross first aid kit, generously provided by Suburban Propane, a dedicated national supporter of American Red Cross Blood Services.

Suburban Propane partnered with Sharing House, a non-profit organization in Brevard, North Carolina, for a local volunteering initiative to combat hunger and poverty affecting residents in the region. Sharing House and its volunteers have been connecting with community members for over four decades to deliver crisis assistance and develop lasting solutions to alleviate hunger and poverty.

Sharing House provides essential services such as rent and utility assistance, supplying food, gently used clothing and household goods, and more to those who need it most. Their work is critical, as nearly half of the county’s residents struggle with unaffordable rent, and more than a quarter are considered low-income. Sharing House’s mission offers pathways out of poverty, providing support and resources that empower individuals and families to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

Community-based volunteerism is a powerful force for good and Suburban Propane recognizes the value of serving its local neighborhoods and residents in need. Through its philanthropic pillar SuburbanCares, the Company and it’s employees are dedicated to making a positive impact in the areas where it operates.

Recently local employees from Suburban Propane’s Customer Service Center contributed time and energy to volunteer at Sharing House. The Company’s employees helped sort and organize donations, cleaned and organized storage areas, and performed light landscaping for the non-profit. Furthermore, Suburban Propane made a monetary donation to Sharing House’s emergency heating assistance program, which supports close to 1,000 low-income households during the winter, further impacting the community in a direct and meaningful way.

By collaborating with non-profits like Sharing House, Suburban Propane and its employees actively address immediate community needs while supporting long-term solutions that create lasting benefits for those who need them most. To learn more, donate, or volunteer with Sharing House, visit their website at sharinghouse.org.

Earlier this week, Suburban Propane collaborated with Operation Adopt a Soldier (OAAS), a nonprofit based in Saratoga Springs, New York, dedicated to supporting deployed military personnel by sending them care packages.

Local Suburban Propane employees assembled over 500 parcels containing essential items most requested by soldiers, such as snacks, games, and other supplies. Moreover, these packages included letters of encouragement and gratitude written by Suburban Propane employees across the region, serving as a tangible token of appreciation and a comforting reminder of home. In addition to the packing event, the local Customer Service Center in Fort Edward, New York, has been collecting donations for this event and others in the future. This initiative is part of the Company’s ongoing SuburbanCares efforts, which support local communities across its 42-state footprint.

OAAS has been a beacon of support for U.S. soldiers stationed around the globe since its inception in 2003. Founded on the principles of volunteerism and gratitude, OAAS aims to shed light on the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families in safeguarding our country’s freedoms. By partnering with Operation Adopt a Soldier, local Suburban Propane employees volunteered time and energy as an opportunity to give back to those who serve our nation daily.

Suburban Propane has a strong history of supporting active military personnel, veterans, and their families. Through the company’s “Heroes Hired Here” program, Suburban Propane offers various employment incentives and benefits to members of the military community, recognizing the immense sacrifices made by these courageous individuals in defending our freedom. Earlier this week, volunteers from Suburban Propane collaborated with the dedicated team at Keep Austin Fed a nonprofit organization committed to effectively addressing the issue of food insecurity in a sustainable manner. Volunteers joined forces to organize surplus nutritious food for individuals in need throughout the Austin, Texas area.

Unfortunately, food waste is a genuine concern across the country. Particularly when paired with the number of individuals living in poverty and facing food insecurity daily. A large amount of surplus  food ends up in landfills, poses negative implications on the environment, and does little to address food insufficiency to people at risk. Thankfully, organizations like Keep Austin Fed tackle concurrent issues, by engaging in sustainable practices that address hunger and reduce unnecessary waste affecting the environment.

By partnering with numerous local food businesses and community organizations, Keep Austin Fed acquires a surplus of wholesome, nutritious food – food that traditionally would have gone to waste, and distributes it to those in need throughout the local community. Not only is Keep Austin Fed sustainably preventing food waste and combating food insecurity, but these efforts minimize the rubbish ending up in landfills and support efforts for a cleaner world.

“Keep Austin Fed is truly appreciative of a compassionate community that believes healthy food is a basic human right and that we need to act now to preserve our environment for future generations,” said Lisa Barden, Executive Director, Keep Austin Fed. “We are thrilled to collaborate with businesses like Suburban Propane who promote sustainability as a core value. Insufficient access to healthy food options is not a production problem, but a distribution problem. Reducing hunger and helping heal our planet by keeping perfectly good food out of the landfill and getting it to people who need it most is a win-win solution.”

The endeavor is a segment of Suburban Propane’s SuburbanCares initiative, which actively provides aid and volunteers by partnering with organizations in their vital mission. This partnership with Keep Austin Fed showcases our dedication to the community while reinforcing SuburbanCares’ commitment to sustainability through food waste reduction and environmental impact.

Our heartfelt thanks extend to everyone who participated in this event for their unwavering commitment and ongoing efforts. To get involved or learn more about Keep Austin Fed, please visit keepaustinfed.org.

In the wake of a natural disaster, communities may be harshly impacted by power outages, infrastructure damage, and supply chain disruptions. Events that cause a loss of heat or power can cause alarm in safety, livelihood, and well-being, particularly when people feel unprepared. In such situations, being able to access a reliable energy source is essential for individuals and organizations alike. For those in need of an emergency power source or agencies who aid in disaster relief efforts, propane stands out as an excellent versatile energy source.

Disaster recovery involves a coordinated effort to restore essential services within communities following a catastrophe. Preparedness is pivotal, as it enables quicker response and more effective recovery. Suburban Propane plays a fundamental role by ensuring a steady and accessible propane supply that enables emergency power generation, essential for hospitals, shelters, and households, all while expediting recovery and rebuilding processes. The American Red Cross is no stranger to disaster recovery, and Suburban Propane is honored to provide aid and support to its relief efforts nationwide through our corporate partnership.

Here are five notable ways in which propane empowers disaster recovery initiatives:

  1. Portable and Versatile: Propane can be stored and transported easily, making it an ideal solution for areas where infrastructure damage limits access to traditional energy sources. It’s used to power generators for emergency electricity, heaters for warmth, appliances that allow individuals to have access to hot water, and stoves for cooking, providing a multifaceted solution for basic needs.
  2. Reliable: From power outages to blackouts, systems powered by propane remain operational, providing a steady and reliable energy source, unlike electricity which is often hampered. With propane, individuals can enjoy consistent heat and continue using their appliances with reduced disruptions. Plus, unlike gasoline or diesel, propane does not degrade over time, ensuring reliability in times of dire need.
  3. Wide Availability: Propane is widely available across the United States, and Suburban Propane has locations and authorized resale partners nationwide. This accessibility ensures that disaster-affected areas – including remote locations, may source propane relatively easily. Additionally, this enables Suburban Propane to support recovery efforts.
  4. Heating and Cooking: During emergencies, propane is a perfect energy source to deliver consistent heat and hot water, and power stoves for cooking. Shelters provide vital temporary housing to displaced people and families, and it’s imperative to have a dependable energy source. Shelters may continue to protect, feed, and provide critical assistance to those in need, making it essential for comfort and survival during recovery.
  5. Proven Track Record: Propane has a long history of use in disaster recovery efforts, including providing power for hospitals or emergency shelters, and the ability to provide heat, hot water, and warm meals to those affected, and the responders actively conducting recovery work. This highlights the reliability and effectiveness of propane in emergencies. Here’s how Suburban Propane has been able to assist:

Propane delivers a combination of versatility, reliability, and availability, that make it an ideal energy source for disaster recovery efforts. Having access to a dependable and easily accessible energy source becomes crucial for both individuals and organizations. Whether for personal emergency power needs or organizations involved in disaster relief operations, propane emerges as a highly versatile and reliable energy option, critical in enhancing our resilience and preparedness for future crises.

This week, Suburban Propane united with Historic Tours of America in a momentous announcement to proudly extend support to the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center (LMCC) in St. Augustine, Florida. This collaboration commemorates Black History Month and plays a vital role in preserving the rich tapestry of African American history.

Situated in the Lincolnville Historic District, the neighborhood was founded by formerly enslaved individuals in 1866. The LMCC has been instrumental in preserving and celebrating the town’s prolific African American history for nearly two decades. LMCC achieves this through numerous channels, including art, educational programs, lectures, live performances, oral histories, and immersive exhibits.

In early February, the City will introduce an 80-foot trolley stop at the LMCC to enhance accessibility for visitors, including those embarking on Historic Tours of America’s renowned orange and green Old Town Trolley Tours. Visitors can explore the museum and delve into the rich historical importance of the Lincolnville District. Notably, this district holds immense importance as it played a pivotal role in the City’s early development and contributed significantly to the Nation’s Civil Rights Movement.

The endeavor is part of Suburban Propane’s SuburbanCares initiatives which support community efforts across the United States. Suburban Propane and Historic Tours of America representatives held a check presentation and a brief speaking program at the museum. This collaboration aims to provide essential funding to support the LMCC’s continued mission of sharing the vibrant cultural heritage of St. Augustine’s African American community.

“We are honored to once again join forces with Suburban Propane, this time to support the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center,” said Piper Smith, Vice President of Marketing, at Historic Tours of America. “Through this collaboration, we aim to contribute to the vibrant culture of St. Augustine and highlight the impact of African American history on the nation’s oldest continuously inhabited settlement.”

As the nation’s storyteller, Historic Tours of America offers unforgettable and enlightening journeys across the country, enabling guests to explore the captivating narratives that have influenced our nation’s history. The widely recognized orange and green Old Town Trolley Tours utilize Suburban Propane for 90% of its fleet due to the high efficiency, durability, and clean energy of propane.
