Warren County Habitat for Humanity strives to eliminate inadequate housing in its local community and beyond. This blood drive is not just a one-time event but a continuous tribute to those who gave their lives, and an opportunity to give life to those in need. Blood donation is a critical act of kindness that can save lives in many ways. From trauma victims and surgical patients to those battling life-threatening illnesses, the need for blood is constant. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, a person in the U.S. requires a blood transfusion, and by donating, you’re contributing directly to saving lives.

The importance of blood donation extends beyond emergencies. Hospitals nationwide rely on a steady blood supply to perform surgeries, treat cancer patients or individuals with Sickle Cell Disease, and help those with chronic illnesses. Blood shortages can lead to delays in care and put lives at risk. By coming together as a community to donate blood, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of 9/11’s heroes and embody their spirit of service and compassion. This memorial blood drive collected 116 pints, which can potentially save upward of 348 lives.

If you’ve ever smelled gas before, you may be familiar with the unpleasant scent that’s described similar to the smell of rotten eggs, sulfur, or skunk spray. To some, it is a foul stench difficult to ignore but serves a critical purpose. Since propane gas is colorless and odorless, a chemical additive called Ethyl Mercaptan is infused with propane to make it easier to detect (gas leaks), which can be dangerous if not addressed promptly.

If you suspect a gas leak, it is crucial to act quickly to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. PERC recommends the following steps:

• No flames or sparks. Immediately put out any open flames or smoking items/devices. Do not operate lights or use electronic devices, as a spark could ignite the gas.
• Leave the area immediately. If you suspect a gas leak and recognize what propane smells like, vacate the area promptly and do not return until a qualified person establishes you are safe to return.
• Report the leak. Contact your local emergency services (police or fire department) and propane supplier to report the leak.
• Turn off the gas supply. Locate the main gas supply and shut off the propane tank gas flow by closing the valve (turning the dial to the right). You should only do this if you know where and how.
• Check your system. When your propane supplier or emergency responders arrive, have them check the entire area and gas system to ensure no leaks are present and it is safe to return inside or resume using your appliances.
